President’s Volunteer Service Award - recognizes the valuable contributions of volunteers nationwide who are answering the US President’s call to serve others through their current volunteer activities or lifetime of services.
Award Criteria: Any individual, family, or group can receive Presidential recognition for volunteer hours earned over a 12-month period or over the course of a lifetime at home or abroad. Deadline for submission is Saturday, September 1, 2012.
Distinguished Youth Service Award - recognizes young leaders between the ages of 14 and 23 who have made a great impact in the community. Award Criteria: No minimum hour requirement. Deadline for submission is Saturday, September 1, 2012.

These awards will be presented at our 2nd Annual "Spirit of Community" Celebration on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 6:30pm – 9pm at Masso Caterers in Glassboro, NJ. This event will bring the entire community together to honor dedicated volunteers, as well as non-profit and corporate leaders, whose service makes a difference in Gloucester County.
Six different award categories will be presented at the event: Volunteer of the Year Award, Volunteer Manager of the Year Award, Corporate Excellence Award, President’s Volunteer Service Award, Bob Shyrock Community Service Award and Distinguished Youth Service Award.

Volunteer Opportunities
Serv-A-Tray Program The Gloucester County Division of Senior Services is currently looking for volunteers for the Gloucester County Serv-A-Tray program that provides hot, nutritious noon time meals to eligible county residents. Food is delivered Monday through Friday and frozen meals are provided for the weekends and holidays. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday. Read to Children The Bookworms is a reading group for children in homeless and family shelters which consists of volunteers from the community. Each volunteer provides one hour of reading to children, as a way to increase their love and interest of reading and daily learning. Help Animals in Need The Gloucester County Animal Shelter provides temporary housing to homeless animals available for adoption to loving, caring homes. They also provide an education program at schools about animal care and spay/neutering. Adoption day volunteers, animal assistants and shelter helpers are always needed. Teen Mentoring Quixote Quest provides high school aged teens (ages 14 through 18) with the opportunity and support to make a difference in their community through volunteering. QQ also exposes teens to positive experiences that affect their view of community service.
