When Fearless Foodies announced they would be dining at the Franklinville Inn, friends of all ages claimed how much they “loved it”. After our night there, we can now agree that the experience was a pleasure, as they truly serve exceptional American cuisine.

The history of the Franklinville Inn began in 1820, as the first town meeting was held in the hotel which was then known as Cake’s Tavern. The present site of that first meeting is now the lounge of The Franklinville Inn. Throughout the years the Inn was owned and operated by many people, with Bill and Alice Casazza being the last owners to rent rooms. During the tenure of Bill & Alice, a one-gallon size bottle of unopened Portuguese imported brandy dating back to approximately 1890, sat on the back bar. This unopened bottle was a conversation piece and cherished by the owners. One day the bottle disappeared after many threats from a patron to sample the spirits. For months the bottle’s whereabouts remained a mystery and everyone was questioned about the disappearance. Then one day the bottle reappeared on the back bar unopened. That same bottle still sits on the lounge back bar unopened. Enjoy a nightcap and see it for yourself!

Fearless Foodies easily made our reservations through opentable.com, a new option for patrons, and this avoided a long wait for seating. The maître d was pleasant, he graciously accommodated us, and we were seated to our table promptly. The restaurant was quite busy for a Thursday evening, however, our room remained quiet and comfortable and the ambiance was warm and relaxed. We ordered a glass of Shiraz from the extensive wine list along with our appetizer, Teriyaki Char Tips. These were sliced Filet Mignon marinated in soy and pineapple juice. It was served with grilled peppers, onions and pineapples. This was a sophisticated twist on filet and proved delicious, and we had plenty to take home for leftovers.

All entrees are served with a choice of soup or salad. You cannot go wrong with either option. I could taste the freshness of the vegetables in my salad, as deliveries arrive fresh daily. The salad was large and all dressing are made in house. I tried the blue cheese and I must say I can’t wait to go back and order this again. My fellow foodie had the cream of cauliflower soup, which was very thick and rich and quite filling. She could not even finish the large bowl presented.

Our entrees of choice were shrimp stuffed with crab, as well as the combination entrée of crab cakes and flounder stuffed with crab. The Crab Cakes were superior and these are said to be a signature dish famous to many who frequent the Inn. The broiled crab cakes were filled with lump crab meat, this has been the same recipe for over 18 years, stated Chef Tim Hogan, although the recipe has been tweaked over time. Everything we ate was amazing and our only recommendation would be the way the entrées were plated (they could be more artfully done). However, one bite and this could be completely overlooked.

Chef Tim claimed customers continue to receive the best cuts of meat as he hand trims them daily. He assured that diners will not find a better steak within 90 miles. With increased cost of meat is has been difficult to maintain the quality of food they provide, however owner, Mark Lachowicz and Chef Tim demand their customers receive the best. This was quite evident by all of our choices. Chef Tim also mentioned they offer a 6 pound 2 bone prime rib for $50.00 that tends to draw a crowd.

Whether you are entertaining a business partner or you are looking for a romantic night out, you cannot go wrong choosing The Frankinville Inn. They offer exceptional service, and created an inviting and intimate atmosphere for you and your guests.
