Barcelona Bistro
As Reviewed by ’The Fearless Foodies’
Debra Cavalieri and Rebecca Russell

bistro1After several unanswered emails and phone calls to our chosen feature restaurant, Fearless Foodies decided to make our first unannounced restaurant review. We arrived to Barcelona Bistro, a small Spanish Mediterranean restaurant in the quaint town of Pitman, on a weekday evening in mid-December. The restaurant was dimly lit and a few customers were dining and making conversation among themselves. Although there were many tables already available for seating, the hostess asked me to wait while she made a table in the large front window available.

We ordered our appetizers, starting with Piquillos Rellenos - which were stuffed sweet bistro3peppers. They were quite good and they had a nice buttery sauce in which they sat in. We would have enjoyed tasting this sauce, but there was not a spoon provided. This would have made the appetizer easier to enjoy. When we suggested this to our server, it was not acknowledged. The two (2) servers were clearly overwhelmed, and when she asked how everything was, she was already walking away before we were able to respond. Our second appetizer was the Queso Assado which was baked brie and topped with fruit compote consisting of berries. This was the tastiest item of the evening and was accompanied well with our bottle of wine. Barcelona Bistro is a b.y.o.b.

Our Entrees of choice were:

tuta dev cTruta Almendras a pan seared trout in an algarvinha sauce and roasted almonds. The fish was cooked quite well and flaked nicely. The combination of flavors was pleasing to the taste buds and, combined with the crunchy almonds, a blast of flavor.

bistro paellaPaella Valenciana-assorted seafood, chicken and Spanish sausage dish on top of bomba rice. This dish was ordered because it is a classic Spanish dish. I found it good, a bit salty but the scallops and the mussels in the dish were of good size. This was a large portion so there was plenty for leftovers.

The dining room was large and open
filled with many tables. Barcelona had Christmas carols playing however it was difficult to hear over other customers loud conversations. The staff seemed very busy as there was 1 server and 1 hostess doing everything on this particular Wednesday evening.

Lastly,
if you have read our previous articles you know that Fearless Foodies commends our chefs and owners of the restaurants we feature. We made many attempts to do so with unanswered emails, and we also left our contact information at the front desk when we left. To date, no one has bothered to contact us, which is a real shame.
