Are Colors Changing?
Wall Colors & Window Treatments
by Teresa Tocco-Davenport, CID

I am always asked to help select new paint colors for clients homes. Some are interested in the new colors available today; others play it safe or just continue to enjoy the colors they have always enjoyed.
My experience has shown that color is changing overall. You are seeing more vibrant hues, due to new media technology like 3-D movies, video animation, etc.
Because color is emotional the effect of the economy is having people lean more toward bright happy hues, some neutrals to calm down nerves.
Green is becoming the new black, it is the
basic color of the environmental movement
but is also a classic color.
Color has a powerful effect on how people feel, so you will be seeing more bold and deep colors. But keep this in mind. Just because color is changing around you doesn’t mean you have to settle for colors you are not comfortable with.

Curtain and Drapery Lengths
When selecting panels for your windows I am asked periodically what length is the best length. There are four known ways to make panels.
- They can be to the floor, which is the most desirable
- To the sill which is the next most desirable
- To the bottom of the apron, although desirable not as poplar today
- Between the apron and the floor, which is not desirable at all.

However, you might have baseboard heat that does not allow you to go to the floor and you might want to be able to pull the curtains back slightly, so in this scenario the last option is sometimes used.
